...but it's tosh.

Dear Patrick,

I can't see why you sent me this. If it's a response to my claim that there's major corruption at the head of the Scottish establishment (and let me repeat, there is), it's tosh. Or to put it another way, I'm sorry to say that I find myself unpersuaded by the points you make:

1. "Police Scotland are operationally independent of Government and cannot be instructed to investigate". Police Scotland allocated 35 officers over two years, and untold public funds, digging  up dirt on Alex Salmond going back ten years. On the basis of what they found, fourteen charges were brought, and on fourteen of those charges Alex Salmond was acquitted. Police Scotland must be either thick as mince or eminently biddable (or both).

2. "This is one of the fundamental principles of our police system." Well, it would be if it was, but it isn't.

3. "COPFS (the Crown Prosecution Service) cannot instruct the police." I didn't say they could. I said *the Scottish Government* has instructed Police Scotland. I can find no other explanation of my point (1) above.

4. "If the [Fabiani] Committee found any evidence of criminality, I'm sure they would report this to the police." The evidence is all over the internet, and especially at https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/, where he shows that Nicola Sturgeon and others were engaged in a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. You'll need to explain to me why the Fabiani Committee hasn't reported it to Police Scotland. And please ask them to stop laughing at the back there.

5. "If you have evidence, you should report this to Police Scotland.". I've written to Police Scotland, pointing to this evidence, and asked them to investigate (copy below). When I get their reply, I'll copy it to you.

I am ashamed to live in a country that's an international laughing-stock for its level of corruption, and in which the First Minister is accused of conspiring to pervert the course of justice. I'd want to say that nobody who supports this corruption will be welcome in the new independent Scotland, but that wouldn't be true: everybody will be welcome in the new independent Scotland. It's just that politicians who have sought to perpetuate the cover-up, and shield those responsible from punishment, because they were looking after their own careers (and that includes you, Patrick), will be less welcome than others.

I see from WingsOver that your Principal Assistant, Anne Harvey, has said unequivocally that there was a witch-hunt against Alex Salmond. I imagine that she doesn't make public statements in her official capacity without your approval. Time for you to jump ship?

If not, I'm sure you'll find a solid career with Police Scotland, though I'm not sure which of the two criteria would best apply.

Prejudice and Contempt

Yanis Varoufakis, in 'Talking to My Daughter About the Economy', asks why the Australians, when the British invaders came to pillage their resources, destroy their culture, and murder their people, did not retaliate by invading Britain.
