Scunnered
Constant Readers Sey&Dor have chided me for not blogging for two months (can it really be that long?!). So here is a quick rundown on where this blog now stands, which of course means a quick rundown on where we all stand on Scottish independence.
First up is total scunneration at the Holyrood election result: no dent in the SNP, Salmond's reputation is rubbished, and Alba gets nowhere. Indy off the table for five years.
Second up is the unbelievable corruption in the Scottish government. Sturgeon and her clique conspired to pervert the course of justice and to jail Alex Salmond for life. A corrupt Lord Advocate - who runs the Crown Prosecution Service but is also a government minister - puts in place procedures (anonymity in sexual-offence cases) that mean that no whiff of this can be published. Craig Murray, the only journalist who gave an impartial account of the Salmond trial and highlighted the strength of the defence, has been sentenced to eight months in jail for doing so. A hundred other anti-Salmond journalists, who leaked so much information that even the squirrels in the trees now know who all the Alphabet Women are, got off scot-free.
Third, the serial liar that is Nicola Sturgeon goes on being a serial liar. "There will be a referendum in 2022", just as there was in 2016 and 2017 and 2018 and 2019 and 2020 and 2021. "The SNP will fight a well-funded referendum campaign" with £600,000 of ring-fenced donations that were "woven through the accounts"(!!), embezzled, and used to pay off a private loan. NS has charisma. But I've stepped in stuff that had more integrity.
And the electorate believed her! This is because she's supported to the hilt by the mainstream media, who know fine well that she has no intention of delivering independence and is therefore their most reliable defender of the Union. Narrative is all, commentators say, and facts don't matter, so the wee wifie that saved us all from Covid is the one we bow must down to and re-elect - a view which I find repulsive. God save us from narratives.
Somehow we - and that includes bloggers like me - must find a way back to honest, fact-based accounts of events, and honest, fact-based discussion. Otherwise our country is done for. But struggling back out of the tsunami of lies that has overwhelmed us is going to be a big task. What do they do in sensible countries - Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Norway?
